Terrain Map Issues

Postby James Murphy » 20 May 2013, 02:05

I am still having issues with setting up the Terrain data.

Equipment Used is a Acer 501A tablet and a Huawei Sonic (smart phone), both run your application fine with no major crashes or issues, but have the same small issues that could be addressed..

1. Terrain map manager issues
• When attempting to import the following coordinates (S30 – S35) and (E114 – E119) I get two available down load options, the first of 1Mb fails to down load at 36% consistently, the second actually down loads (srtm_60_19.zip) and then tries to unzip the file, and fails at 99%. I have not been able to successfully import terrain data since I installed this app some time ago.

Application is using SRTM data - sometimes are bad. I am planning to use another source. It will take some time. I hope in June will be available new elevation data source...

Hi kitercuda, thanks for your application. I am still on testing phase and up to now works very well on my Galaxy S2.

Question: I can not download the srtm file for some of the locations I use to fly (appears as "Not available"), however I was able to find the srtm file on the Internet. Is there a manual procedure to convert those files into the ones used by the application?

Thanks Onuff for your response, however that is not what I am looking for. The link is related to import RWY/VOR/ILS using google earth, but what I am looking for is how to manually import into the application an SRTM file (obtained externally) for those cases where the terrain map data is not available through the download manager of the application.

Thanks, following the instructions in the video I was able to download the missing files in .asc format ... but now I have a different problem, also reported by someone else in another post. In my case I'm running version 11.71 unlimited and when I go to Import and Download / Import srtm file / folder / srtm_xx_yy.asc I receive an error that says "Import error: Bad file header".

This happens to the following files:

srtm_21_21.asc, srtm_21_22.asc, srtm_21_23.asc
srtm_22_16.asc, srtm_22_17.asc, srtm_22_18.asc, srtm_22_19.asc, srtm_22_20.asc, srtm_22_21.asc, srtm_22_22.asc, srtm_22_23.asc, srtm_22_24.asc
srtm_23_16.asc, srtm_23_17.asc, srtm_23_19.asc, srtm_23_20.asc, srtm_23_21.asc, srtm_23_22.asc, srtm_23_23.asc, srtm_23_24.asc,

Maybe here is the problem: the header has 6001 cols and rows instead of 6000 .... I will try to download the files again following the instructions on viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4&p=6&hilit=bad+file+header#p6

This is the header of srtm_21_21.asc
ncols 6001
nrows 6001
xllcorner -80.000416642462
yllcorner -45.00041624533
cellsize 0.00083333333333333
NODATA_value -9999
