Good 8 inch tablet?

Postby flyyyer » 03 Mar 2017, 19:42

Hi All,
Can I ask for some advice and experiences please:
I have been using a Motorola Xoom II 8 inch media edition as my primary Andriod FIF nav for a few years now, very reliably, but I am looking to upgrade if it is worth doing so.
My spec:
8 inch with as small a border as possible (Because it needs to fit in the space I have for it)
Reliable....Reliable....
To be faster and better than the Xoom II
2 gig ram?
Quad + core
Will a higher resolution make FIF display better?
Extra GPS (Glonass)
All the sensors...don't care about cameras.
Highish Android system.
What else?
I have been looking in Banggood, Gearbest but there are so many.......just wanted to know if anyone had and recommendations on what is worth the money for an upgrade to improve my usage with FIF.
Good flying and regards

I also use a Note 3 as the secondary FIF. As this is still my daily phone I use it for the flight tracking bit and as an auto logbook history record to fill in my paper logbooks......

I am not sure about a good 8" tablet. Have a cheap one for displaying plates only, but isnt good for navigation.

I am running FiF in two moto G4+ phones with the same setup for redundancy. They have 5.5" 1080x1920 screens. Bright enough to be seen in sunny days. It is fast (8 cores @ 1.5/1.2 GHz, 2 Gb RAM) and endure 4-6 hours depending on screen brightness (in flight mode, few services running and GPS on). no baro and no compass sensors in there.

The internal GPS is a real one (26 ch, Glonass, BeiDou, A-GPS). It cold starts in less than 30 sec without Assistance. Warm starts take few seconds. I carry a backup USB GPS receiver in case both internal fail for some reason, an external 10k mAh battery and a lighter cable.

They are phones so I may call Petr if FiF quits :D

When I left iOS world and Air Nav Pro for Android and Fly is Fun, I had the same problem, replacing my iPad mini with a same size Android tab,

Now I'm using an Asus ZenPad S 8 that has same size than iPad mini
It has a lot of memory 4 Go RAM and 64 Go internal storage
A very good screen
It's cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S2 8 Tab

But the GPS isn't as good as the one of Apple or of Samsung,

The best 8 inch Android tab I know for the time being is the Samsung Galaxy S2
Brilliant screen
Excellent GPS

I was told Huawei as a good 8 inch tab and I didn't try the Sony

As backup, I use a Huawei P9 phone

Thanks Guys.

Maybe a question for Petr. Will I notice the difference with a high resolution. (2560 x 1600 on a Tab) I understand that the screen would naturally be clearer but do things like the terrain resolution get better..... ?

Of course a good device resolution improves the reading of small characters, symbols and drawings.

But I dont think that the device resolution can make any difference in the terrain display. The terrain pixel sizes are much larger than the hardware pixels at all zoom levels.

Hi

For me the most important parameters are.

Screen luminosity. It should be easy to read in/withsun light on it
and
GPS accuracy

Then
RAM capacity
and
On board storage capacity

Currently, buying a tablet, I consider
3gb RAM
32Gb internal
GPS allowing exception of 3 different systems US Russian Chinese
as a minimum
