"Distance to Height"

May I make a suggestion for a user selectable text option:
"Distance to Height"
This can be used primarily to show/determine the glide distance from your present height to a user selectable height, (or by default , sea level) or could also be used to show the distance to a user set, climb height (which would use the same formulae)
We have the sensors built in to most of our android devices for this to be calculated.
Using the formulae:
(Present height - desired height) X Ground speed MPH
divided by
Rate of decent or climb (ft/min) x 60.

This box would be continually showing the distance to this height and could show "--" or something like when you are not decending or climbing (as it would go to a distance up to infinity ....and beyond :-)

Desired altitude could be altitude bug value. What you mean?
Altitude bug can be set manually or automatically when Route navigating.

I think that is a different thing and its use is also different.

Some uses of "Distance to Height" :
This could be used to have a reading for the glide DISTANCE, in the event of an engine failure.
(You could also determine the best angle by varying your speed etc)

Could also show the climb DISTANCE needed to achieve your set height (from your present height)
(You could again determine the best angle by varying your speed etc)

.........................
If I had an engine failure at 5000 ft and had a strong headwind or tailwind and I knew an airport was x miles away, I would have a constant readout to let me know if it was achievable to reach the airport (or some height set above that airport)
A similar scenario could be for a desired climb distance, you would know how many MILES it will take you to get to the set height

This is similar, but different, to the RRD which also has a constantly computed value

Thank Petr.

Only an idea for a luxury item :-)

Would be good for me to really determine my best glide angles/longest distance (although that can change with the wind speed and direction, especially in a slow microlight )
Also to determine my best climb angle/shortest distance.

I would then probably leave this setup as a default for glide distance to sea level.
