marker beacon

Postby marpdiaz » 04 Jun 2013, 01:42

Petr,

I have used an old pascal coded application to play marker beacon sounds by proximity. I found that
0.6, 015 and 0.05 nm are reasonable radii for medium outer and inner markers.

Is there any way to associate a proximity alert to waypoints in flyisfun?

I can send you the mp3 files for omi marker tones.

best,

Marcos

Hi Petr,

I was thinking that possibly the simplest way to implement the marker beacon tones in ILS approaches is by adding the marker coordinates to the published ILS items already in the wolrd database. This would require changes in the item structure. Then provide a trigger to the marker sounds by proximity (with OM, MM and IM fixed radii). I have just sent you a file with all markers in Brazilian airspace, in the case you think this may be useful. We dont have inner markers here, Just outer and medium.

by the way, I found the recent improvements very nice. Tracking, logbook and HP are great.

best,

Marcos

Why you need Markers for ILS approach? You have DME information.
I thought, markers are useful, when no DME information avaialable (for example NDB approach)

Outer markers are often used as report point for established approach but more importantly, the medium maker is an independent (audible..) alert for starting a missed approach. This can be useful in the case of wrong altimeter setting or misread DA.

An alternative may be create another type of waypoint ("proximity waypoint") that include a radius and a sound file name. This can be also used for a variety of useful alerts. It would be very easy set up the markers with that.

best,

Marcos

That would be excellent.
I guess people will use it for all kinds of warnings like paraglider or parachute dropping zones, bird areas, man made obstacles, turning/altitude changing points in routes, marker beacons, etc.

many thanks,

The best got even better...

tested with simulator mode and it is working great.

I also set RWYs wpts to the end of my RNAV non-precision approaches and... voila - there are the friendly tones.

thanks Petr !
