How to connect Xplane and Fly is Fun together

How to use Fly is Fun with X-Plane on a PC.
I have been an avid Flightsim buff for many years. I also think Fly is Fun is the best navigational aid there is for my actual flying. So wouldn't it be great to use FIF whilst flying X-plane on your PC. This would be a much more realistic training aid than the excellent built in simulator. I have discovered that you can. This will work with X-plane 9 or 10. I have tested it with version 10.
Download and install a third party utilty called "X-Plane to GPS" from playstore (this will cost you all of £0.78p) The instructions for use are within this program. Your XPlane computer will need to be equiped with a wireless capability and you need to input the settings into X-plane as per the instructions from "X-Plane to GPS"
How it works.
This utility spoofs the phone to allow wireless, GPS type, input coordinates from your X-plane PC computer and then feeds these co-ordinates through, into Fly is Fun. So now you can fly your favourite sim and use your favourite navigational aid together. Great for training for the coming winter months. This is not my program, I just recently discovered this. Let this forum know how you get on. I'm not sure that the terrain map height works correct (when I quickly tried an ILS approach) but I am still testing . Great fun......TBC.......

I have now tested also with X-plane version 9 and FIF works great with this also.
The terrain does work great but you need to change have the "Altitude source" in the settings of FIF to be GPS. If it is on Barrometric then you get a static altitude level.
( Petr.... I did think you had fixed, and could only use the GPS alt input for the input to the terrain screen.... I have found that you can change to either Pressure sensor or GPS to affect this screen when connected to X-Plane? Is this the case? No problem but that does mean you must be sure to set the correct QNH/QFE to be correct/safe on the terrain screen, especially on an approach)
In X-plane when On the threshold at Welshpool, I get an indication of -400ft AGL, -171ft Alt, in FIF which I am now looking to reset correct somehow (WPL is about 230ft Alt). This may have to be done within the settings of X-plane though. TBC...............
FIF would now also be a fantastic addon for all the X-Plane sim buffs worldwide.........

A good rediscovery on FIF correct usage......I think I will stick to "use GPS Alt" when flying for real and using the terrain screen. This will ensure that the terrain displayed is always calibrated correct. (The GPS would have to be working correct for you to get any display / position fix also) When making an approach/ILS, the Baro alt relationship to the terrain would still work correct when set to airfield QNH though. (you MUST remember to do this!)

How to recalibrate the terrain/altitude setting for X-plane connection.
Connect to X-plane and set at your known airport into the location of the PC.
Goto the terrain screen of FIF and read the AGL figure (you may have to adjust your custon screen settings)
Goto app settings/Preferences/Altitude settings and un tick the Automatic GPS altitude correction if ticked
Goto app settings/Preferences/Altitude settings/default GPS altitude correction and enter your offset (AGL reading) to correct the X-plane error.
OK
Back
Back
Close FIF
Restart FIF
You should now have correct terrain and AGL (reference your point) The Alt is QFE!

DONT FORGET TO REVERSE THIS SETTING BEFORE FLYING FOR REAL!!

If anyone else has tried this can you post on the forum. This is the best way to train youself up on real use of FIF apart from actual flying.
