OK ... this is what happens: some files are not available on the server JRC (IT), which is the one that provides the right files for the application, however in CGIAR-CSI (USA) the files are available but with 6001 cols/rows, which can not be loaded with the "Import srtm file'" menu. This is one case: srtm_23_17

There is another source of information suggested in a post ( http://www.viewfinderpanoramas.org/Cove ... s_org3.htm ), however the files have .hgt extension and I don't know how to convert them to .asc

Any suggestion? Thanks.

Finally I got a solution: I found the following link http://www.cgiar-csi.org/data/srtm-90m- ... 1#download, and then clicking on "Google Earth interface (1 and 5 degree tiles): http://www.ambiotek.com/srtm". That will download a file for Google Earth and I followed the embedded instructions to download the files. In any case the Google Earth interface directs me to a link like this for downloading: http://www.ambiotek.com/cgi-bin/downloa ... _23_17.zip

There has to be 6000 col/row.
Unfortunately some srtm files have 6000.

I am planing to import another terrain source. Next month will be upgrade with logbook and after this I will work on new terrain source...
